Quick Mixed Berry Jam Compote: Tangy, Vibrant & Lazy-Chef Approved

If lemon curd is the bright, tart star of the show—this Quick Mixed Berry Jam Compote is her broody, berry-forward understudy who steals the spotlight anyway.

We needed a jammy topping for pavlova, and weren’t about to drop $9 on a store-bought jar that tastes like corn syrup and regret. This one? Tart. Glossy. Packed with real fruit. And just the right balance of sweet and sass.

Why You’ll Love This Jam Compote

  • No pectin, no problem: It thickens beautifully with reduction alone.
  • Fast & flexible: Done in under 45 mins, and works with whatever berries you’ve got.
  • Less sugar, more flavor: Let the berries speak for themselves.

What’s In It:

  • Mixed red berries: Strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, currants—whatever’s moody in your fridge.
  • Cranberry juice: For extra tartness and that rich, jammy depth.
  • Lemon & lime juice + zest: A citrusy kick to brighten the whole batch.
  • Sugar: Just enough to keep things sweet and balanced.

The Process (AKA How Not to Burn It)

  1. Toss berries, sugar, and juices into a pot. Stir gently, then bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and let it simmer like a Sunday playlist—soft, slow, and vibey.
  3. Add your zests and continue stirring until the liquid reduces.
  4. Want it smooth? Cool it down and blend. Want it rustic and chunky? Serve as is.
  5. Jar it, seal it, and give it 6–10 minutes in a water bath. Done.

How to Serve Your Moody Berry Compote

  • Over pavlova (the drama!)
  • Swirled into Greek yogurt or porridge
  • Spooned over pancakes, waffles, or cheesecake
  • Stirred into bubbly water or cocktails (trust us)
